I'm A WINNER!

No, not in the sense of winning the election, although the last numbers I saw today showed that I had gained some votes!

I have come from this election and the experience of campaigning as a big winner with new friends, new insights and new ideas to bring forth to the community in the future. I can honestly say that the phone calls, emails and cards have not stopped coming - all wishing me well and encouraging me to continue in my quest to help make Greensboro a better place.

I have decided to volunteer, as time permits, to help in some segment of the community to hopefully make a difference in my own small way.

I also look forward to watching the new City Council and hope they can find ways to fulfill all their campaign promises. Won't it be grand?

"The Future Awaits"

After coming "out of nowhere" in the Primary and then only three and a half weeks to the General Election, this has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! I truly feel that I have 15,077 new friends and I am honored and humbled that each of them voted for me in the General Election. The cards, emails and notes I have received in the last couple of days have all been so uplifting and encouraging!

I shall continue on my quest to make Greensboro a better place and will continue to keep my posts here on my blog. To each of you, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and want you to know how appreciative I am of each and every vote. We almost made it!

Sincerely,

"Just the FACTS, ma'am"

It has been a long, rewarding campaign! And to come out of "nowhere" and win a candidate spot in the Primary showed me that the citizens of Greensboro are wanting a major change in their city government.

As a last comment before the Election tomorrow, I will give you the FACTS:

F = I can assure you that I will be FAIR and will do my best to be open-minded and make educated and well-researched decisions concerning issues brought before the City Council.

A = I will be ACTIVE in trying to make Greensboro a better place to live.

C = I will seek CHANGE if it will be for the betterment of our citizens.

T = I will gain your TRUST as I vote on issues which concern taxpayers in every part of the city.

S = I will have the STRENGTH to stand up for what I believe to be every taxpayer's rights.

Truly, I believe government is suppposed to SERVE the people, and I hope to become your Public Servant tomorrow, November 6, 2007.

Thank you!

"Sign deletion"

Only two days left until the election and there is a "rash" of incidents involving our political signs. Several candidates are having "sign deletion" going on where they had placed their signs in prominent locations - I am one of those candidates!

Is this a "sign" of the times? Are those who are stealing the signs trying to gain votes for their candidate or is it a group of youngsters who are fascinated with the signs and are going to post them in their bedrooms? I certainly hope it is the latter and that we will all wake up tomorrow and find that the signs have miraculously reappeared in their proper locations because their parents made them take them back.

Unfortunately, I believe we will be replacing signs for the next two days and hope we can keep up with the "sign deleters".

Please vote November 6 and I hope you will vote for me.
Thank you!

"A New Day with Marikay"

When I first decided to run for elected office as an At-Large Candidate for the City of Greensboro, a friend of ours suggested "A New Day with Marikay" as my campaign slogan. It would have been a wonderful slogan, but I needed to get my last name out there as most everyone already knew me as "Marikay". Instead, I decided to use the phrase every day as my own "personal" slogan. Every morning I think of it before I start the day and it has helped me greet each day with an energy and strength that has surpassed all my expectations.

This campaign has truly been a "life experience" for me and I have enjoyed every minute. Of course there have been stressful moments, but it has been an extremely positive journey. I have gained knowledge in researching issues that I never would have pursued, I have been amazed at my acceptance into the political arena, and I have been overwhelmed at the outpouring of support from most everyone I have met. More importantly, I have gained new insights from "regular" citizens like myself on issues and concerns which affect all of us.

Through the course of the last few months I have gained new friends, become reacquainted with "old" friends, and have created some lasting bonds with friends that will never be broken. It is and has been a pleasurable journey and, if elected, I promise to keep on that journey with the energy and passion that has been bestowed upon me.

While I am new in the "blogging" world, I am also fascinated about it! Will my blog end after the election? NO! I plan to continue no matter what the outcome, but I still plan to WIN in the election! I look forward to your comments, suggestions, ideas and even debates if you so choose.

Sincerely, Marikay Abuzuaiter
